MEET AVICHAL JHA
The Artistry of Avichal
One concert by Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan was all it took. Avichal knew, from the very first note, that this was the sound he had been searching for his entire life.
About Avichal
Avichal Jha is a senior disciple of Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, based in Los Angeles. His playing is rooted in the Etawah Gharana, a lineage celebrated for its lyrical depth and what its practitioners call the singing sitar – a tradition where melody becomes feeling, and every note carries the weight of generations.

Inspired by his father’s deep love of melody, Avichal began his sitar studies at age 24 under Paul Livingstone. In 2006, a concert by Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan moved him to tears from the very first note. Three years later, he became a direct disciple of the maestro himself. Since 2009, he has carried forward the legacy of the Etawah Gharana, performing at cultural festivals, private events, and concert halls across the United States. His collaborators include tabla player Jyotiprakas, flutist Aakash Pujara, and santoor player Kamaljeet Alhuwalia.

Avichal’s performances invite listeners into the full emotional world of Hindustani classical music, where a single raga can move from profound stillness to breathtaking intensity, and back again.
